Considered the most popular voice in Poland and one of the muses of the Serbian composer Goran Bregovic, Kayah is one of the artists most in demand on the European continent. The chance to hear her in a setting like the Palau de la Música and as special guest of the Barcelona Gipsy Klezmer Orchestra is one of those unique situations that deserves celebrating. With more than a million copies of her recordings sold, Kayah is a true celebrity for lovers of roots music prepared to widen their sonic horizons. The versatility of her voice allows her to combine genres like pop, jazz, soul and tradition without the mixture having any effect on the personality of her register or the identity of her origins. That’s why, in 1999, Goran Bregovic chose her to record a joint album – “Kayah and Bregovic” – which became one of the most popular records in Poland’s history. Since then, this artist has continued to accumulate hits and recognition in her career, with top-class recordings winning worldwide acclaim, such as her MTV Unplugged in 2006 or “Transoriental Orchestra”, which she released in 2013 as her particular tribute to Jewish music.

Matching her is a real challenge and a privilege for the debut at the Palau de la Música Catalana by the Barcelona Gipsy Klezmer Orchestra, a line-up which, in just three years of existence, has achieved really surprising recognition and popularity. Consisting of musicians originally from Serbia, Italy, Greece, France and Catalonia, all of them established in Barcelona, the BGKO offers a first album, Imbarca (2014) that concentrates the energy and cultural diversity which defines its repertoire. Meanwhile, it already has the recordings for a new album full of star guests from Eastern European roots music in the bag. It will be an evening to vibrate with klezmer, manouche, Romany, Balkan and Jewish rhythms recovering and updating the most authentic, genuine essential sounds of the Old Continent.
